Project carried out with the support of the European Community within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme

STRUCTURE OF FORMAL EDUCATION - SWITZERLAND

Psychology is offered at * universities

Entry requirements

Degree structure. This can be divided in two main parts, that is university education and postgraduate education. Each of them lasts at least 4 years. The university education consists of a) generic education and b) specialist education, and the postgraduate education is regulated by the FSP.

Generic specialisation and training

University education is divided into two parts, the first two years (Grundstudium) are usually a generic education, the following two years up to the lic. phil. degree are a specialist education. Postgraduate education is again specialist education. But it is not usually restricted to the special discipline one has finished in university education. That means: after a university degree the game starts again and it is possible to get an education in a special field, which is different from that in the university study.

Duration of different parts

As indicated above, university education lasts 4 years, as does postgraduate education. This time span is the minimal requirement. In fact one has to plan about 5-6 years for each of them.

ECTS

Examinations. There is one examination after the university education, a second one after the postgraduate education. The first examination is regulated by each university separately, the postgraduate education is also regulated in each curricula separately. Nevertheless the common frame work of FSP gives some minor common requirements. They are listed in reference 3, point 9 (Evaluation des individuellen Weiterbildungserfolgs). In fact it is left to the organiser. There it is handled quite different. (This is shown in the references 5 to 12.)
