FORMAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - DENMARK
The title. The title "Autoriseret Psykolog" ("Authorised
Psychologist") is the qualification required to practice as a
fully recognised professional psychologist in Denmark. In order
to obtain certification as a psychologist the applicant is
re-quired to have a cand. psych, or cand. paed. (psych) (see
section B) and to have completed at least 2 years' full time
work as a psychologist and at least 160 hours of professional
supervision with respect to his or her own cases. The applicant
must also document a certain diversification in his or her
practical education.
The law. Under the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Danish
Supervisory Board of Psychological Practice
(Psykolog-nævnet) is appointed by law to certify
psychologists, defined as a person who has graduated as a
psychologist or as a psychologist/educationalist , or who has
obtained an equivalent degree . The law entitles only those who
have graduated with a degree in psychology from a university or
other IHE or who has an equivalent degree to use the title
psychologist.
The authorisation has not had the expected impact on the
employment market in all areas. The area of work, personnel
selection and organisational psychology in both the private and
public sector has not yet adopted the authorisation.
Further Specialist Education.
Further education or education to specialist level requires
3 years of further practice and training. At the present time
there are further education routes in the following areas:
- Psychotherapy
- Clinical psychology
- Child psychology
- School psychology
- Neuropsychology
- Child neuropsychology
- Gerontopsychology
- Health psychology
When the psychologist has been recognised as specialist he
or she can qualify further by becoming a supervisor.
Research. The area of research has its own qualification
route through the PhD study. In order to obtain this title one
has to be employed as a PhD candidate for at least 3 years.
This title is only obtainable if one already has the Master's
degree in psychology. The PhD candidate has to do teaching,
courses and independent study in order to obtain the degree.
The degree is publicly defended.
