Developing a European Diploma in Psychology

Project carried out with the support of the European Community within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme

The Aims of the EuroPsy Project

The principle aim of the current EuroPsy project is to elaborate that common framework, consult on it, test it, draft the terms of reference for a European Diploma (including the institutional aspects) and prepare a plan to implement it. The project will also achieve a variety of other objectives that go beyond the EuroPsyT project. It will:

  • prepare the ground for a European Awarding Body with contacts to appropriate existing assessment and awarding organisations in each of the partner countries.
  • sustain, enhance and extend the network of partners so as to ensure that the network continues after the end of the project.
  • extend the influence of the network to reach other countries, including pre-accession states.
  • test a set of standards of competence for a high level profession as a pilot and show that it is a practical basis for defining professional competence; this will have wide implications for transnational mobility, transparency of qualifications, the design of professional qualifications, etc across all professions and sectors, well beyond psychology.
  • disseminate the results of the project to other professions in all the partner countries, and more widely in Europe, to encourage them to move towards similarly specified Europe-wide qualifications.
  • hold an international conference to share the findings and products of the project.
